The Forest Lake Area School Board is asking voters to consider a renewal of the current operating levy. The levy, which generates $725 per pupil, expires this year. The school board has unanimously voted to request a levy renewal that would not be a tax increase yet would continue to provide local funding for our schools.
For the past five years, this levy has provided $6 million per year to the school district.
Again, renewal of the current levy will not increase your local property taxes.
Local residents will have the opportunity to vote on the levy renewal on Tuesday,
Nov. 8, 2011.
Strong schools are the backbone of a strong local community. Not only does a first-class education benefit students and their families, but a strong school system provides a direct benefit to the local economy and, therefore, to everyone living in the community.
A recent article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune noted that the housing market in Forest Lake is seeing a more rapid recovery than most areas of the Twin Cities, due in part to our quality school system.
“(Forest Lake) is becoming popular with move-up buyers,” the article read. “Buyers are also drawn by the area’s highly rated schools.”
Advanced programs, numerous academic options and opportunities to excel in athletics, arts and other activities are among the main reasons our students have been so successful, and the main reason our community has been so proud of our school district.
School districts rely on local support in order to create student success. Forest Lake Area Schools, which has a rich tradition of offering an outstanding education to its youth, is no different.
It is because of the continued support of our community that we are able to offer high quality education programs to our students.
This page will provide links to the 2011 School Levy Renewal Information brochure that was recently mailed to the homes of all district residents, to the Official Notice to Taxpayers that will be arriving in the mail very soon, Voter Registration Information, and other important information that you may require before casting your ballot on Nov. 8.
On behalf of the school board and all district staff, I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to you, the Forest Lake Area Schools community, for the strong support you have given our school district over the years.
It is important that you – as a taxpayer, voter and member of this community – have all of the critical facts at your disposal before casting your vote on Nov. 8. This brochure is intended to be a resource for you and to provide information regarding the levy renewal.
More information about the levy is available on our district website, at www.flaschools.org. Also, feel free to contact me at (651) 982-8104 if you have any questions regarding the levy.
Again, thank you for your continued support of Forest Lake Area Schools, and I encourage each and every adult member of our community to get out and exercise your Constitutional rights by voting on Nov. 8.
Sincerely,
Linda Madsen, Ph.D.
