Nicole Lyons
Class of 2009
Nicole Lyons graduated from Forest Lake Area High School in 2009 and currently attends the Art Institute of Minneapolis, studying residential interior design.
Nicole was an excellent student at Forest Lake and was instrumental in the creation of several groups and activities at the school that celebrate ethnic and cultural diversity. Nicole - who is a member of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Indian Tribe - helped form the school district's Diversity Committee and, even after graduation, continues to play an actiive role on the committee.
She also helped start the school district's annual Festival of Cultures celebration, which is held every April and offers opportunities for people from many backgrounds and cultures to demonstrate their heritage through dance, food and other presentations.
Also, Nicole helped start the district's Indian Education Program, and she has been a leading force the district's efforts to recognize the contributions of Native Americans in the Forest Lake Area and to develop curriculum that reflects those contributions.
Nicole was also actively involved in debate while a student at Forest Lake. She hopes to one day be an interior designer specializing in middle-class residential homes
