Title 1

Providing additional assistance to students

Title 1 is a federally-funded program designed to offer extra academic assistance to students who need help in meeting state standards in reading and mathematics. Title 1 has been in existence since 1965 and continues to provide students with supplemental reading and mathematics practice that enhances their ability to succeed.

Forest Lake's Title 1 program has licensed staff along with paraprofessionals that work in our 5 elementary buildings. We offer extra assistance in reading and mathematics to more than 500 students. Title 1 also supports eligible students at St. Peter's Catholic School.

Children are selected to participate in the Title 1 Program by using assessment and testing information. Teacher judgement on a child's classroom performance is also used.

Our district has chosen to fund the same program to the three non-Title 1 schools. Again, licensed staff and paraprofessionals offer extra assistance to at-risk students.

Classroom teachers work with Title 1 teachers and para-professionals to help students reach the goal of achieving at or above their grade level in literacy and math.
